Solar-cell lamps for children in the third world

Mekoprint has developed and manufactured small solar-cell lamps in cooperation with Risø DTU and Faktor 3 in a project funded by EUPD.  A number of llamps were distributed to school children in Bangladesh, Bolivia, Tanzania, Mali and many other countries by the Norwegian humanitarian organization, Strømme Foundation.

Requirements for the development of solar-cell lamps:

• Clean, free solar power to replace unhealthy and polluting kerosene lamps
• Function in the evening when children make their homework

The result is a solar-cell flashlight consisting of a polymer solar cell, switches, LED, printed circuits, electronical components, a battery and a full-color overlay:
