Solar light for homework

Solar cell lamps enable children in the third world to do homework in the evening. Mekoprint has developed and manufactured small lamps powered by polymer solar cells in cooperation with DTU Energy Conversion (previously: Risø DTU) and Faktor 3 in a project funded by EUPD.

The lamps are distributed to school children in Bangladesh, Bolivia, Tanzania, Mali and many other countries by the Norwegian humanitarian organization, Strømme Foundation. The solar lamps replace unhealthy and polluting kerosene lamps with clean and free solar power.

The project serves as a platform for real-life testing of solar lamps under intensive use in diverse climates. It also enables Strømme Foundation to gather information on solar-driven lamps as a tool in the fight against poverty.
