In Mould Decoration (IMD)
Exclusive, individual design
Graphics offers In Mould Decoration (IMD), which provides the customer with
individualized design options. IMD is a process by means of which screen printed
material is 'cast' into plastic.
Supreme strength and durability
During the IMD process, a screen printed item is placed between two layers of
material, so that it is protected against wear, scratches, chemicals etc. In this way,
the casting process ensures a long service life - and complete impermeability.
At the same time, great flexibility is achieved in design and decoration - e.g. for
different language versions - as one casting tool can be used for many different prints.
IMD can be used for small and large items in every batch size - and often adds a financial
advantage as it eliminates work processes related to the laminating/mounting of plastic
signs with adhesives.
Development and cooperation
IMD is developed in close cooperation between the customer, Graphics and the die casting
company. The foil/plastic sign is screen printed at Graphics in accordance with the
customer's design. It is punched out and delivered to the die casting company. The foil/plastic
sign is then placed in a casting tool, where it is 'embedded' into e.g. polycarbonate into
a finished product.
